Leeds University has announced its plans for a phased re-opening of its campus, following the COVID-19 pandemic. The university has been closed for several months and has been implementing measures to ensure the safety of its students, staff and faculty when they return to campus.
The first phase of the re-opening will see a limited number of staff and research postgraduates being allowed back on campus. This will allow the university to test its new safety measures and ensure that they are effective before larger numbers of people return to campus.
During this phase, all those who are permitted on campus will be required to wear face coverings, practice social distancing and follow good hygiene practices. They will also be required to follow a daily health assessment, which will involve taking their temperature and answering a series of questions to assess their risk of COVID-19.
The second phase of the re-opening will see the return of taught students to campus. This is expected to happen in the coming months and will include students from all year groups, including those starting their first year.
During this phase, all students will be required to follow the same safety measures as staff and research postgraduates during phase one, with the addition of some additional measures to ensure the safety of a larger number of people on campus.
The final phase of the re-opening will see a full return of all students, staff and faculty to campus. This is expected to happen in early 2021, although the exact date will depend on the success of the previous phases and the ongoing situation with COVID-19.
During this phase, the university will continue to implement a range of safety measures, including enhanced cleaning and sanitation, contact tracing, and a continued focus on social distancing and good hygiene practices.
Leeds University's phased re-opening plan is designed to ensure the safety of everyone on campus while allowing students to continue their studies and staff to carry out their work. The university is committed to providing an excellent education and research environment while adapting to the challenges of the pandemic. As the situation develops, the university will continue to review and adjust its plans to ensure the safety and wellbeing of everyone involved.
